Florida Ranks in Top Three Most Dangerous States for Kids in Vehicles

The beautiful state of Florida has a lot to enjoy, and that’s what makes us a major player when it comes to tourism. Unfortunately, Florida is also known for some less enjoyable reasons, as Florida is one of the three most dangerous states when it comes to children riding in vehicles, and this is a blight on our reputation that we should all do our part to help correct. If another driver’s negligence leaves your child injured in a car accident, an experienced Tampa car accident attorney can help.

The Upshot

The Detroit Bureau reports that Florida made its way squarely into the Top Three list of the most dangerous states for car accidents that involve children. The data was crunched by the nonprofit Go Safe Labs, which reviewed all the available numbers put out by government sources, including information related to more than 300,000 traffic fatalities from 2015 to 2018.

One important factor culled from the data is that, overall, children are significantly more likely to be harmed in car accidents on rural roads than they are in car accidents on urban roads (and the discrepancy increases when calculated for serious injuries – rather than all injuries). The study was quick to point out, however, that this is not an indictment of rural drivers.

Car Accidents and Damages

If your child has been injured by another driver’s negligence, you are living through a very difficult experience. While the journey toward recovery may be long, obtaining the compensation to which you are entitled and that you need to help your child to the best of your ability is paramount. The damages (or losses) your claim will address include:

  • Your child’s medical expenses, which – if his or her injuries are serious – are likely to be immense, can lead to the need for treatment of serious secondary health concerns and could be ongoing.
  • Your child’s pain and suffering, which may be very difficult for you to face and that can be extensive
  • Any other financial losses, such as if you need to take a leave of absence from work while you care for your child and/or if your child requires a tutor to keep up with school during his or her convalescence

There’s a lot to consider, but a dedicated car accident attorney can help.
